Solidara Zürich exists since 1862 and has demonstrated an active commitment in the fight against social inequality ever since. Café Yucca is one of Solidara’s projects that is helping homeless people, people in difficult life situations, jobseekers in transit, and those who are stranded in Switzerland. There is always a pot of warm soup on a stove, and food and drinks at affordable prices.
Essen Für Alle - „Food for All“ is an initiative established in spring 2020 by a young man, Amine Diare Conde. It was founded in response to the devastating effects of the Corona crisis felt by the most vulnerable members of our society such as immigrants without legal status or families dependent on social welfare. Today, there are almost 700 volunteers helping with food collections and distributions, and hundreds of families who rely on the help of the „Essen für Alle“ collective on a weekly basis.
Autonomous School Zürich (ASZ), under the sponsoring association Education for All (BfA), is a self-managed educational project organised jointly by locals and migrants. Free German courses make up a large part of the school activities. In addition, foreign language courses and other projects such as the production of a newspaper, discussion events, exhibitions and sports courses take place. Teachers and other members are volunteers and the school can function thanks to the support of private individuals and organisations.
SPORTEGRATION is an NGO that organizes a range of different projects for refugees and asylum seekers in and around Zürich. Its focus is to promote social integration of refugees in Switzerland through sport, various coaching programs and 1:1 tandem projects that encourage forming of new friendships. SPORTEGRATION not only enables refugees to improve their physical health, but also makes an essential contribution to their mental health, by making them feel part of a team.
Valeriana is a non-profit organization whose main goal is to bring society closer together. Valeriana empowers women with a migrant background and supports them to integrate in local life through education, vocational training and through work in the household sector. This social project gives women a real chance to participate in life in Switzerland by giving their work a fair value and by promoting intercultural exchange wherever possible.
