Quest to the West

Icon

Follow your guide on a quest to Zürich West! We stroll along the Sihlquai, show you our favourite hangouts, hop on a tram, and take you on a ride towards the city's industrial past. District 5 and its former factories have turned into a popular urban quarter with trendy food venues, fashion boutiques, studio galleries, art museums and night clubs.

However, the industrial history is also connected to the history of immigration. Today, about 32% of Zürich's population is made up of foreign nationals. But what's the story behind this number and what does the integration process look like? Take this detour to find out.

Chocolate is one of the most consumed foods worldwide and yet there is little conversation about how its production affects people and the environment. The Detour "Dreams in the Beans" is changing that.

Join us and meet the local chocolate makers who follow the bean-to-bar trade model. Visit their chocolate factories or shops, and discover secrets of the bean-to-bar production. Learn about the history of chocolate in Switzerland, the challenges in the industry, and find out what it means to produce chocolate in a sustainable way. And don't worry, we include the chocolate tasting, too! We make a few stops in various areas of the city, and at each of them you can look forward to some delicious, locally produced chocolate treats. Enjoy each bite with a good conscience! :)
